If you’re trying to slim down, here’s what NOT to do.

If “shed some pounds” is on your resolution list for next year, you’re certainly not the only one. But are you doing all you can to achieve your goals, or are you inadvertently sabotaging them? Take this recent finding, for instance: A study from Cornell University researchers showed that going more than a week without stepping on the scale led to dieters gaining weight, while more frequent weigh-ins were associated with losing weight.

“Often people think they’re doing the right thing (i.e. not weighing themselves daily) but they may actually be making a mistake that prevents weight loss,” study author Brian Wansink, PhD, director of the Cornell Food and Brand Lab and author of “Slim By Design: Mindless Eating Solutions for Everyday Life,” tells Yahoo Health.

Are you making other weight-loss mistakes without even realizing it? We asked the experts to share some of the most common diet trip-ups — and how to avoid them.

Mistake No. 1: Thinking Fat-Free = Automatically Healthy

Foods touting their fat-free status may be free of, well, fat, but that doesn’t make them good for your weight-loss efforts. “Many fat-free foods contain lots of sugar to make up for the taste of the missing fat, so they can be high in calories,” Lisa R. Young, PhD, RD, adjunct professor of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University and author of “The Portion Teller: Smartsize Your Way to Permanent Weight Loss,” tells Yahoo Health.Plus, these foods may not satisfy your hunger — so you tend to eat more of them. A better bet? Stick to a small portion of the real thing (with fat) and savor every bite.

PC Troubleshooting Tips ( Why is My PC Crashing? )

Nothing can put a damper on productivity quite like a computer that crashes on a regular basis. Sometimes, a crash is preceded by the dreaded “blue screen of death” or another warning; other times, a computer simply shuts off without any warning at all. In either case, the end result is a whole lot of frustration, aggravation and lost work. If your computer has been crashing frequently, you’d probably like to put an end to it. Unfortunately, getting to the bottom of things if often easier said than done. The following tips about improving your computer’s performance, though, are excellent places to begin.

Possibility #1: Corrupted System Registry Files

Every Windows-based PC has something called a Windows registry. The registry contains several files that are integral to the performance and operation of your computer. Over time, some of those files can become corrupted, be misplaced or get lost altogether. When that happens, the system registry becomes compromised – and frequent crashes are all-too-common symptoms. The best way to rule this possibility in or out is by running a Windows registry cleaning program. Such programs scan your Windows registry for problems then automatically make repairs. If you run a registry cleaner and the crashes persist, they are probably being caused by a different issue.

Possibility #2: Disorganized Files

Windows operating systems handle file organization in a way that isn’t very intuitive. Basically, they break files up and fit them into gaps in the computer’s memory. As time goes by, these disorganized files can prompt frequent crashes. Luckily, a great optimization solution is built right into Windows-based PCs: the disk defragmentation utility. Although its location on a computer varies, you can generally locate it within the System and Security section inside the Control Panel. By running a defrag once every few months, you may be able to keep those pesky computer crashes at bay.

NRB bars banks from charging service fees

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has barred banks and financial institutions (BFIs) from charging service fees for opening or closing accounts, providing any branch banking service and issuing bank statements. However, the central bank said that BFIs could charge their customers for taking bank statements more than once.
Issuing a directive on Friday, NRB has instructed A, B and C class BFIs not to charge a fee for reactivating inactive deposit accounts or deduct a penalty for not maintaining a minimum balance.
If BFIs decide to charge a fee for other services, they are required to inform their customers in advance. Similarly, the central bank has forbidden BFIs to charge any kind of fees for the use of electronic cards as long as they remain valid.
NRB’s directive entitled Provision on Financial Customer Protection and Financial Literacy, a draft of which was made public last January, has now been issued as a directive with a few revisions.
As per these instructions, BFIs are not permitted to charge any fees except administrative service fee and commitment charge besides the interest while providing loans.

China censors news on Sony hack

Censorship is a part of daily life in China. News articles are erased from online search engines, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are banned, and CNN is routinely blacked out for Chinese viewers.
Instagram was a huge hit in China -- until the government banned it during the Hong Kong protests.
"All good things must end," one young Chinese woman told me -- seemingly resigned to the fact that she can no longer post photos on Instagram.
While such restrictions would likely incite mass outrage in many Western countries, citizens in China seem to mostly accept the fact that they relinquish a tremendous amount of freedom in exchange for living in this booming country.
China's Communist Party will do whatever it takes to stay in power. Censorship is just one tool -- along with quickly quelling civil disobedience.
Of course, China feels like a utopia of liberty when compared with the repressive North Korean regime. I distinctly remember feeling a sense of freedom and relief when landing in Beijing after a recent visit to Pyongyang.
In the DPRK, the average citizen has never heard of the Internet or social media. Contact with the outside world is forbidden for all but the most elite members of this reclusive society. Propaganda rules the television airwaves and fills the pages of state-run newspapers.
Censorship in China
The Sony hack story has received limited news coverage in China. Stories have appeared on CCTV's newscasts and in newspapers like China Daily, though with far less prominence than some other international news outlets.

Not the right time for protest, shrestha tell dahal.

UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha has expressed dissatisfaction over the announcement of nationwide protest by the party-led opposition alliance ahead of the deadline for constitution promulgation. They party should instead focus on constitution writing, Shrestha told Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in a meeting on Tuesday.
On Monday, the 19-party opposition alliance had announced a nationwide protest to press the ruling parties--Nepali Congress and CPN-UML--to settle the disputed issues of constitution writing through consensus.
Shrestha told Dahal that this was not the appropriate time to protest or go on a strike. The Maoist vice-chairman suggested that despite the souring relations among the parties, there should be continuous talks to make progress on constitution writing task.
Shrestha is of the view that agreement on contentious issues of constitution writing is possible if all parties, including UCPN (Maoist), adopt flexibility on federalism, the major issue of disagreement. He has been urging the top leaders from his party as well as the leaders of ruling parties to at least issue a draft of constitution by January 22 deadline.
Shrestha also requested Dahal to resume talks with the ruling parties on contentious issues of new constitution.
