Government ready to address Dr KC's demands: Health Minister

KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Khagaraj Adhikari has said the government was ready to address demands put forth by Prof Dr Govinda KC, who is on a fast-onto-death at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, demanding reforms in the entire heath sector.

Minister Adhikari, as a member the talks team formed by the government to negotiate with agitating Dr KC, an orthopaedic surgeon, stated that the government was effortful to seek a solution to the problem. Talking to media persons at his office Monday, the Health Minister said the government was waiting for a report from a taskforce constituted under the convenorship of Prof Dr Kedarbhakta Mathema for giving recommendations for revisions in the health education policy.

4 dead and 3 injured in a road accident

DHADING, MAR 30 - At least four persons died, leaving three seriously injured when a passenger bus collided with micro bus at Jogimara-1 in Dhading district on Monday.

The accident occurred when a passenger bus, Lu 1 Kha 9593, en route to Kapilvastu from Kathmandu collided with a micro bus, Ba 1 Kha 1028, coming from Pokhara at Khutauti Khola in the district.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. However, of the deceased, two are foreign nationals and two Nepali nationals, it is learnt.
reliminary investigation suggests that the accident occurred because of poor visibility due to thick fog in the highway.

Salman’s Driver Says He Was Driving The Car

Today, on March 30, 2015, Salman Khan’s driver was present in the court saying that it was not the actor

driving the car, but he was driving the car at the time of accident in 2002 which killed one person and injured four.

For the first time in 13 years, Salman Khan gave his statement on 2002 hit and run case on March 27, 2015. The actor in his statement said that he wasn’t driving the car, which rammed over people, killing one person and injuring four. In fact the actor denied all the charges that he has been claimed with.

He also claimed that it was his driver, Altaf who was driving the actor. He said that since his door was jammed, he had to get out of the car from the driver’s side.

Salman Khan’s car met with accident in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002, killing one person and injuring four.

Interview with A Nepalese Politician Sujata Koirala

Gunmen kill 15 in Nigeria during tense election

Gunmen killed at least 15 people including an opposition politician near polling stations in northeast Nigeria on Saturday, casting an ominous shadow over the closest electoral contest since the end of military rule in 1999.

The tense race pits President Goodluck Jonathan against former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari for the favour of an electorate divided along a complex mix of ethnic, regional and in some cases religious lines.

Indian Forest Guards Open Fire at Bardia

One person was injured when Indian forest guards from Murtiya range post bordering Bardiya district entered Nepali side and opened fire at locals working on a farm.
Locals Ramesh Lodh, Bheri Lodh, Chopo Lodh and Buddhi Lodh had gone to harvest pulses at a farm of one Sitaram Lodh, when forest guards entered some 500 meters on the Nepali side and opened fire towards them. Ramesh Lodh received injuries to his eye after being hit by a shrapnel.
DSP Dipak Kumar Basnet said that a cartridge has been recovered from the site.
The District Administration Office has summoned an emergency security meeting following the incident.

Nepal risks UK aid cut for ‘endemic corruption'

A UK House panel has suggested that the British government reduce aid to Nepal if the country fails to curb “endemic corruption through effective action”.

The suggestion from the parliamentary committee comes after its Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI), responsible for scrutinising foreign aid of the United Kingdom, showed concerns over corruption in the projects supported by Local Governance and Community Development Programme in November last year.

Swine flu under control: Shukraraj Hospital

KATHMANDU- The number of people infected by swine flu ( H1N1) virus has not increased in the country, according to the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital. 


Though 100 to 150 patients visit different hospitals for tests of suspected infection, they are not found serious and only five patients are admitted to Hospital.

Nepali And Finnish go missing at Mt. Annapurna

A Nepali and a Finnish went missing from the Mount Annapurna on Wednesday.

According to Gyanendra Shrestha, an official at the Department of Tourism, the missing persons have been identified as Pemba Sherpa (35) of Makalu VDC, Sankhuwasabha and Mika Samuli Mansikka (36) from Finland.

Shrestha informed that the duo had gone to scale the mountain through the Dreamers Destination Trek on March 3.

It has been learnt that they had scaled the mountain yesterday and went missing while descending the mountain today.

Germanwings flight that went off the radar at approximately 11am this morning has crashed in the Alps in southern France near Digne-Les-Bains. It is reported that 148 have been killed after the airplane went off course 50 minutes before the crash at 11:50.

Maoist students hurl stones at Mahat’s vehicle

Students from All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) have pelted stones at Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat’s vehicle at Simpane in Pokhara .

Minister Mahat was on his way to take part in a programme at Salyan VDC in Kaski district, when students from the UCPN (Maoist) affiliated union pelted stones at his vehicle. No damage was caused whatsoever.

Police has arrested ANNISU-R central member Kshitiz Sapkota among Laxmi Prasad Subedi, Netra Chapagain, Dinesh Poudel and Bishal Gurung after the incident.

Rapist gets 15-year jail

LAMJUNG, 

The Lamjung District Court has sentenced a 55-year-old man to 15 years in jail on rape charge.

A single bench of Judge Jagat Narayan Pradhan gave the verdict against Bir Bahadur Sarki of Sundarabazaar-5 on Tuesday. Sarki was convicted of raping a 14-year-old differently abled and mentally challenged girl around two months ago.

The court also slapped the convict with Rs100,000 in fine.

Court Registrar Hari Gopal Gyawali said Sarki was sentenced to 10 years on rape charge and five more years for raping a differently abled minor. Sarki lured the victim to his house and committed the crime on January 15. Police had arrested him the next day as per a complaint lodged by the victim's family.

Netanyahu apologizes to country's Arab minority

JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized to Israel's Arab citizens on Monday for remarks he made during last week's parliament election that offended members of the community.

The move appeared to be an attempt to heal rifts and mute criticism at home and in the United States. Netanyahu drew accusations of racism in Israel, especially from its Arab minority, and a White House rebuke when, just a few hours before polling stations were to close across the country, he warned that Arab citizens were voting "in droves."

Two persons killed and 25 others were injured in saptari bus collision

Two persons killed and 25 others were injured, 15 critically when two passengers buses collided with each other at Trikaul-8 of Saptari along the East-West Highway on Tuesday.

According to Incharge Umesh Kumar Yadav of the Area Police Office, Bhardaha, the deceased have been identified as Rohit Bhujel and Surendra Rai.

The bus (Na 4 Kha 6975) belonging to the Ujyalo Travels was heading towards Kakadbhitta from Kathmandu when it collided head-on with the bus (Na 4 Kha 3849) heading towards Bhairahawa from Kakadbhitta at around 7 am today, Yadav informed. 

35 Houses Destroyed and 90 Families Displaced at Taplejung District

The massive fire that broke out at Taplejung district headquarters has destroyed 35 houses and displaced 90 families, initial reports of damage showed.

The fire was contained on Tuesday morning with the help of two fire engines from Ilam and Jhapa districts. Strong winds had derailed overnight efforts from locals and security personnel to douse the fire that broke out from Purbeli Hotel in Takme Danda on Monday evening. Some houses were demolished to stop the fire from spreading further.

Dead body found in Anamnagar, Kathmandu

A man was found dead near Dhobikhola Bridge in Bijulibazaar of the Capital this morning.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Deepak Regmi, said the dead has been identified as Drona Bahadur Sen Thakuri (approximately 40) who was living at a rented room at the house of Hari Bahadur Thapa in Baneshwor, KMC-34.

The permanent resident of Tulsipur in Dang, Thakuri had a severe injury on his left temple.

The body is taken to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for postmortem.

7 killed, 7 hurt in road accidents

HETAUDA/DHADING, MAR 23 - Seven persons died and as many others were injured in two separate road accidents in Makwanpur and Dhading districts on Sunday. Some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

A private car with Indian registration swerved off the road and fell some 200 metres at Kulekhani-6 along the Bhimphedi-Kulekhani stretch, killing five persons and injuring two others. All the victims are Indian nationals. The vehicle was on its way to Kathmandu from Hetauda.

SLC examinee kills self in Saptari due to undue pressure from his teachers

RAJBIRAJ: A 17-year-old School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinee committed suicide by hanging himself to a mango tree in Kanchanrup of Saptari on Saturday night.

Kuldeep Dhungana (17), son of Uttam from Kanchanrup Municipality-8 of the district, had hanged himself to death at around 11:30 pm last night, apparently after undue pressure from his teachers about the examination score.

Though he was a very bright student, the pressure by his principal to score good marks in exam might be the reason behind his suicide, said police.

"The reason behind the suicide has not been identified yet," they added.

Thai aircraft hit by bird while landing‚ flies back after maintenance

KATHMANDU: A black kite crashed into a Thai Airways aircraft, inbound from Bangkok, when it was about to land at the Tribhuvan International Airport, and inflicted a minor damage on its right engine this afternoon.

The Flight TG320, however, safely touched down at the TIA after a couple of minutes at 12:37 p.m. without calling for the need of emergency landing, according to Deo Chandra Lal Karna, the Officiating Director of TIA's Airport Operations Department.

Pakistan says 80 militants killed in Khyber clashes

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani troops killed 80 militants in heavy clashes in the lawless northwest, near the mountainous border with Afghanistan, a spokesman said on Sunday, while the Pakistani Taliban said at least six soldiers had been killed.

Fighter jets have pounded positions in the Tirah Valley in the Khyber region, west of the city of Peshawar, over the last few days.

A security official said those killed last week belonged to the outlawed militant group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and an allied group, Lashkar-e-Islam.

Happy New Year is a 2014 Indian action-heist comedy film directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment. The film has an ensemble cast, which includes Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood,Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff. The film was distributed worldwide by Yash Raj Films. The film marked a third collaboration of Khan with the director; they previously worked on Main Hoon Na (2004) and Om Shanti Om (2007), the latter of which also featured Padukone as the female lead.

The film, one of the most expensive films made in Bollywood, released on Diwali, 24 October 2014 in three different languages: Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film received mixed to negative reviews from critics, but proved to be a commercial success and ranks among the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences features the film's script in their library. The heist is loosely based on the one shown in Hollywood film Ocean's Eleven.

Baby born with heart outside his body

A woman has given birth to a baby with his heart outside his body here in Dharan, Sunsari.

Shruti Karki (Dahal) of Baniyani-4, Jhapa, gave birth to the baby boy with such rare condition in BP Koirala Institute of Health Science at 5:05 am on Saturday. Doctors performed a surgery on Karki to deliver the baby from the abdomen. She had come to BPKIHS for medical treatment four days ago.

The BPKIHS has referred the case to Kathmandu-based Kanti Children’s Hospital. Doctors said that further treatment and operation is needed to place the heart inside the body.

The infant weighing 2.4 kg seems normal despite the condition.

Nepal U-23 leaving for Iran to play AFC qualifiers

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s U-23 team is flying to Iran to take part in the AFC U-23 Championship Qualifiers tonight.

Nepal are drawn in Group C with host Iran, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Afghanistan.

Nepal are scheduled to play their first match against Iran on March 23 at the PAS Stadium in Teheran. They will lock their horns with Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Palestine respectively on March 25, March 29 and March 31 at the same stadium.

Suicide bombers kill 126 in Yemen mosque attacks

(Reuters) - Suicide bombers in the Yemeni capital Sanaa blew themselves up during Friday prayers at two mosques used by supporters of Shi'ite rebels, killing 126 people and wounding 260, medical sources said, in the country's deadliest militant attack in years.

Islamic State, an al Qaeda offshoot that has seized large areas of Iraq and Syria, claimed responsibility for the attacks, in which four bombers wearing explosive belts targeted worshippers in and outside the crowded mosques.

Indian police say shootout at Kashmir police station kills 6

SRINAGAR: Suspected rebels wearing army uniforms stormed an Indian police station in Kashmir, killing a policeman and sparking a four-hour gun battle Friday that left two paramilitary soldiers, two militants and a civilian dead, police said.

At least seven paramilitary officers, two policemen and a second civilian were also wounded in the fighting on the outskirts of Kathua town in the region of Jammu. Indian forces also rescued at least two dozen paramilitary and police officers who had been trapped inside the station, police said.

Indian train accident kills at least 30, leaves 50 injured

INDIA, MAR 20 - At least 30 people were killed and 50 injured when an express train overshot a railway signal and some carriages went off the rails in a northern Indian state on Friday, officials said.

India's creaking railway system is the world's fourth largest, ferrying more than 20 million people each day, but it has a poor safety record, with thousands of people dying in accidents every year. Friday’s accident occurred at Bachhrawan railway station, about 45 km (28 miles) from Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, one of India's most populous states."Dead bodies after dead bodies were being pulled out," said Gyaneshwari, a 43-year-old passenger, who uses only one name. "The injured were crying in pain. God has been very unkind." Rescue workers used cutting machines to free passengers and recover the dead bodies, a witness said. Blood was splattered in and around the wreckage.The accident happened when the train driver "overshot the signal ... causing derailment of the tail engine and two coaches," Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu told parliament.
